President’s Message

My name is Robert Jones and I am the current president of the SCCA.   I’m known as Rob to most of you but to my close friends and family it’s Robbie. I will answer to any of the above.  I’ve added a profile about myself to the web site.  If you’d like to know more about me, please feel free to take a look.  You can find the web site address (URL) elsewhere in this newsletter.

In our first board meeting the directors elected the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Parks Director and Boat Launch Director. I was pleased and grateful to receive the full support of the board for President. Following that meeting two new directors were created.  The Budget Director and the Maintenance Director. Each of us will give our contact details and outline what our plans are for each of our portfolios.

As president, I have the privilege of setting the agenda at our executive meetings and will always endeavour to make sure your ideas and suggestions are on the table to be considered.  Please contact me with your concerns or suggestions and I will make sure the directors hear them.  The board is larger than in the recent past and it is good that more people are volunteering. However, it will make for longer meetings, some growing pains but hopefully more ideas.

As a board, we have decided that none of the directors will be taking any compensation for the first year of this term.  We all agreed that we can redirect our Honorarium to whatever area we like within the SCCA. Considering the expenses we’ve incurred over the past few years, we felt this a prudent thing to do.

I also wanted to let everyone know that we plan at the next AGM to ask for a vote on the Rules and Regulations.  We want members to consider a couple of minor changes to the Rules and Regulations.  It is important for you to come to the AGM so we can have a good discussion about these changes.  The changes we propose will be communicated to you separately.

We would also like to move as much of our communications with members to an electronic form as this is quicker and cheaper than Canada Post.  To that end, we will be actively soliciting the email addresses of everyone who has one.  Please take the time to submit your email addresses to either the treasurer or myself if you’re not certain we have it.

It is my greatest hope that we can look at this as a reset.  We have a new board, new Constitution and new Rules and Regulations.  I know that for my part I will give this new task all that I can and I see that all the board members  are working just as hard for all members. Our association is really about our four parks, trails/pathways and our private boat launch – that’s it!  Well – there is the financial aspect to that. We need to maintain the parks and boat ramp and also pay the taxes/bills. We will do all of this responsibly, effectively and always be transparent.  One of the nice things about our Association is the Executive has no jurisdiction over your private property.  You must meet and comply with the Municipal standards and that is your private business.  We really are so fortunate to have all this private access to the Crown beaches.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and trust you had a lovely holiday season.
